Family services

We provide a range of services to children and families across the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Westminster, which, geographically speaking encompasses all of Greater London north of the Thames and all of Hertfordshire.

Services are provided regardless of race or faith.

  • Each year we work with some 3,000 children and families
  • Adults either contact the Society direct or are referred by a parish priest or childcare professional. Children tend to be referred by their parents, by their school or by health professionals.
  • Problems most commonly raised by adults and children alike tend to stem from relationship difficulties; emotional difficulties due to bereavement or separation; family pressures due to ill health, poor housing, addictions; financial pressures caused by low paid work or unemployment; poor educational and employment opportunities.
  • Our services are largely preventative. We know from feedback and experience that most of the people who approach us would not be offered a service by statutory authorities as they are not yet at the ‘critical’ level.
  • We aim to support individuals and families before the situation becomes ‘critical’ and to help them find appropriate solutions to their problems.
  • We know from feedback that those who use our services do so because they are reassured by our charitable status, our values, our respect for the individual and the confidentiality of our services.

Our services are broadly divided as follows:

  • School Counselling
One to one counselling in primary and secondary schools
  • Community Work
Local projects working with children and families in the community
  • Counselling
Family therapy, child and adolescent psychotherapy and individual counselling
  • Child Protection
Archdiocese of Westminster child protection service and victim support service
