Trusts and Foundations

The Catholic Children's Society (Westminster) places great value on the support that we receive from charitable trusts and foundations.

Funds provided by trusts enable us to plan and implement innovative new projects as well as supporting our core activities.

The St John Southworth Fund supported the start up costs of providing a counselling service for children who have been excluded from school. Issues such as anxiety, trauma from abuse or domestic violence, a difficult family life, and peer problems such as bullying can contribute to the emotional reasons for a child not being able to function in school. These emotional difficulties may be exhibited in challenging behaviour, truanting, school phobia, or substance misuse, leading to school exclusion or withdrawal from the school system. Our aim is to work with the services to provide emotional support as part of the package of education and guidance they provide to help children get back into mainstream education. This support has made a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged children, helping them come to terms with the sources of their distress and reengage with mainstream education.

The Waterside Trust (via Porticus UK), the Charlotte Marshall Charitable Trust, the Family Holiday Association and the Dorothy Pamela Smith Charity have all made tremendous contributions towards our work at St Francis Family Centre.  Without their help we simply could not provide such high standards of care to deprived children and families living in Tower Hamlets

The City Bridge Trust, the Jack Petchy Foundation and the Haramead Trust have supported our Bishop Harvey Family Service which gives children and families access to early intervention psychotherapy services for children suffering issues such bereavement, bullying or abuse.

In our core work, there is an ongoing need for funding of advice, support, information and campaigning work. The Society's School Counselling Service, for example, is currently supported by the Westminster Amalgamated Charity, the John Lyon's Charity and the Mary Strand Trust.  These grants are supporting our ongoing work of providing counselling and play therapy to primary and secondary schools.

A number of trusts have also given our work with disadvantaged children and families loyal support over the years, providing funding for our core costs.  These include Sir Harold Hood's Charity, the Sir Pierce Lacy Charitable Trust and the Albert Hunt Trust.

We are very grateful to the Trustees of all these trusts for their invaluable support which has helped transform the lives of disadvantaged children and families throughout the Diocese.
