ConnectEd – Mental Health Services

ConnectEd is the delivery arm for our School Counselling Services. We work in over 60 schools across London and Hertfordshire delivering vital early intervention mental health services at the point of need. An outline of our services is shown below.

We also provide therapeutic services such as play, drama and family therapy on-site at our Family Centre. This work focuses on early intervention and supports children and young people experiencing complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. These can be the result of issues such as:

  • Family breakdown
  • Relationship conflicts
  • Bullying and other school pressures
  • Bereavement
  • Mental health concerns

This support is important for children, adolescents and their families who choose not to, or cannot engage with therapeutic services in the school setting. This may be due to experiences such as bullying or school exclusion, or where school counselling is not available. This flexible approach also enables us to deliver intensive systemic work with whole families and ensure their specific needs are met.

By helping families access the support they need at an early stage we limit problems from escalating and significantly enhance the emotional wellbeing of all concerned.

School Counselling Services

We have been providing professional therapeutic services to primary and secondary schools within the Westminster Diocese since 1986. Currently we work on-site in over 60 schools (both Catholic and non-Catholic). Over the years our service has gained an outstanding reputation. Unlike some organisations we only ever use qualified and experienced mental health professionals.  This means we are able to:

  • Conduct clinical assessments
  • Work with children and young people with very complex needs
  • Provide expert support and advice to school staff and parents

Our multi-disciplinary team includes counsellors as well as play, art, drama and music therapists.  These staff are based on-site in schools and deliver both individual and/or group therapy to help children and young people who are struggling with a range of issues such as:

  • Domestic violence
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Neglect and abuse
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Eating disorders
  • Self-harm
  • Divorce, separation and family breakdown

By intervening early and providing students with intensive and personalised support, our service has a high impact:

Over 90% of the children and young people who access our services show a marked improvement in the emotional wellbeing

As a result of this support students develop vital emotional resilience and are in a far stronger position to cope with the challenges they face, engage meaningfully with learning at school and achieve their full potential.

Mental Health Training

We deliver bespoke training workshops for school staff on how to identify and support children and young people with mental health difficulties. Delivered by our team of experienced mental health professionals, these workshops:

  • Enhance staff’s understanding of mental health issues
  • Provide staff with practical classroom strategies to support their most vulnerable students
  • Enhance staff’s knowledge of specialist support services available locally – and how to refer students to them
